Problem
If you have family or friends, you know how important it is for them to share meaningful moments with you. Where do they do this? Everywhere. So, in a few years, everything fades away and all the details are forgotten. Messages are lost in time.
Then, in a few years, when you want to reminisce about the old times, you end up looking through a maze of folders and files to only find a few pictures.
Solution
I've experienced this many times with my family and I decided to do something about it. Qote is the only app you need to capture and share your memories with loved ones.
The app works as a bookshelf for the albums with pictures, locations, and short descriptions. Each album can be shared with whoever you like, and together you can grow it.
Goal 1
Mobile app solution
Goal 2
Accessibile for seniors
Goal 3
Photo album experience
Goal 4
Way to track progress
App inclusivity
I tried to find the best solution between “You need the account to view” and “You can do everything without doing anything”.
When the first person downloads the app I would like him/her to convince friends and family to do the same but It can’t be demanded. I needed to find the middle ground.
Approach
The way we share our lives has changed drastically over the years, especially with the advent of social media. It's essential to understand the sharing habits of each generation in order to better connect with them.
For example, Baby Boomers are likelier to share their life experiences through stories, while Millennials are likelier to share photos and videos.
Older people are less likely to actively post on social media but will still consume content.
Teenagers
13-21y
Currently, people use existing apps such as Snapchat or Instagram to save memories. It would be impossible to change their minds. However, older members of their families are not using those apps.
The goal with "qote" is to replace groups with their families, not fight against tech giants and standards. That’s how I viewed this age group and conducted research
Stress Points
Photographs and videos spread between different services, devices and apps
Lack of long-term way to save memories besides icloud or google photos.
Current Solutions
Social media apps, mainly Snapchat and recently growing bereal
IMessage and WhatsApp to keep in touch with older family members
Needs
Seamless sharing experience
Popular product used among others in their age group
Millenials
22-30y
This group is mostly comprised of individuals who are not as familiar with the most recent social media apps and thus, do not spend as much time on them.
Their priorities lie in creating memories with friends and then family, rather than on snapchat.
Stress Points
Mess in the files when it comes to sharing
When you want to organize current data you need to put in much effort
Current Solutions
Social media apps, instagram/facebook. Vast majority of them are not using things such as snapchat
Apple/Google Photos
Whatsapp/Imessage for quick sharing with family
Needs
Simple solution to share organized images/videos
Closed community to share things with family
Parents
+30y
This group included all the parents since they have quite similar priorities. Family is number one for them and they want everyone to hear about what’s happening.
They are also some of the most active users when it comes to creating memorable content. Usually willing to spend money on useful solutions.
Current Solutions
Social media apps, instagram/facebook. Vast majority of them are not using things such as snapchat
Apple/Google Photos
Whatsapp/Imessage for quick sharing with family
Needs
A way to share photos & videos with family
Images and videos of their children are kept private and secure
Control over the access to media
Ease of viewing experience regardless of their location or device.
Grandparents
+50y
At that age, people are usually not familiar enough with technology to actively post content. Most of them will consume and react to content posted by millennials and parents. Of course, some of the more active ones will also create albums and actively grow their libraries.
Also they are not big fans of changes and learning new software.
That’s why we aim to encourage their children to help them with the use of qote
Stress Points
Poorly designed services that limit their ability to add their input and use the service
Older images/photos are usually scattered across different hard drives or devices that makes it almost impossible to use alone by seniors
Current Solutions
Whatsapp/Imessage groups with their families, set up by their younger family members
Photo albums. It’s almost impossible for them to view old memories on social media by themselves. (My own family experience)
Needs
An accessible way to see how their family is doing
Way to easily watch older content
Timeline
I usually take a calm and flexible approach to the design process, avoiding rigid frameworks that could hinder the project's success. However, it's helpful to have an overall plan to guide the design work.

Competition Analysis
Yes, currently they are services similar to what qote offers. But there is one major difference, other services are not built with the goal of family sharing, but rather just storing photos with poor sharing options as an addition. The only real competitor is Google Photos that’s used mostly by android users.
