JuraRat web app
Reimagining the process of creating contracts online. My responsibilities included designing the new look & improving the experience of crucial features.
Problem
If you have family or friends, you know how important it is for them to share meaningful moments with you. Where do they do this? Everywhere. So, in a few years, everything fades away and all the details are forgotten. Messages are lost in time.
Then, in a few years, when you want to reminisce about the old times, you end up looking through a maze of folders and files to only find a few pictures.
Solution
I've experienced this many times with my family and I decided to do something about it. Qote is the only app you need to capture and share your memories with loved ones.
The app works as a bookshelf for the albums with pictures, locations, and short descriptions. Each album can be shared with whoever you like, and together you can grow it.
Goal #1
Mobile app solution
Goal #2
Accessibile for seniors
Goal #3
Photo album experience
Goal #4
Way to track progress
Challanges
Qote is not a product for a specific niche, almost everyone can become its user. That's why the during design phase I’ve stumbled upon a few roadblocks that get me thinking.
Wide age range
It’s hard when you know that app is gonna be used by teenagers, their parents, and grandparents.
Completely different approaches when it comes to what you would like to share and see as well as the money you are willing to spend.
App inclusivity
I tried to find the best solution between “You need the account to view” and “You can do everything without doing anything”.
When the first person downloads the app I would like him/her to convince friends and family to do the same but It can’t be demanded. I needed to find the middle ground.
Approach
The way we share our lives has changed drastically over the years, especially with the advent of social media. It's essential to understand the sharing habits of each generation in order to better connect with them.
For example, Baby Boomers are likelier to share their life experiences through stories, while Millennials are likelier to share photos and videos.
Older people are less likely to actively post on social media but will still consume content.

Audience
The most important stage of the design process is understanding your audience. Knowing who will be using your product will help you determine what the final product will look like. With qote, audience research is crucial to the success of the app.
13-21
Teenagers
Currently, people use existing apps such as Snapchat or Instagram to save memories. It would be impossible to change their minds. However, older members of their families are not using those apps. The goal with "qote" is to replace groups with their families, not fight against tech giants and standards. That’s how I viewed this age group and conducted research
Needs:
Seamless sharing experience
Popular product used among others in their age group
Pain points:
Photographs and videos spread between different services, devices and apps
Lack of long-term way to save memories besides icloud or google photos.
Current Solution:
Social media apps, mainly Snapchat and recently growing bereal
IMessage and WhatsApp to keep in touch with older family members
22-30
Millennials
This group is mostly comprised of individuals who are not as familiar with the most recent social media apps and thus, do not spend as much time on them. Their priorities lie in creating memories with friends and then family, rather than on snapchat.
Needs:
Simple solution to share organized images/videos
Closed community to share things with family
Pain points:
Mess in the files when it comes to sharing
When you want to organize current data you need to put in much effort
Current Solutions:
Social media apps, instagram/facebook. Vast majority of them are not using things such as snapchat
Apple/Google Photos
Whatsapp/Imessage for quick sharing with family
30+
Parents
This group included all the parents since they have quite similar priorities. Family is number one for them and they want everyone to hear about what’s happening. They are also some of the most active users when it comes to creating memorable content. Usually willing to spend money on useful solutions.
Current Solutions:
Social media apps, instagram/facebook. The vast majority of them are not using things such as snapchat
Apple/Google Photos
Whatsapp/Imessage for quick sharing with family
50+
Grandparents
At that age, people are usually not familiar enough with technology to actively post content. Most of them will consume and react to content posted by millennials and parents. Of course, some of the more active ones will also create albums and actively grow their libraries. Also they are not big fans of changes and learning new software.
That’s why we aim to encourage their children to help them with the use of qote
Needs:
An accessible way to see how their family is doing
Way to easily watch older content
Pain points:
Poorly designed services that limit their ability to add their input and use the service
Older images/photos are usually scattered across different hard drives or devices that makes it almost impossible to use alone by seniors
Current Solutions:
Whatsapp/Imessage groups with their families, set up by their younger family members
Photo albums. It’s almost impossible for them to view old memories on social media by themselves. (My own family experience)
Competition Analysis
Yes, currently they are services similar to what qote offers. But there is one major difference, other services are not built with the goal of family sharing, but rather just storing photos with poor sharing options as an addition. The only real competitor is Google Photos that’s used mostly by android users.
Branding
When the initial research is completed, I can move on to creating a moodboard and looking for the right visual style guide for the app.
Colors
The app is based on a neutral beige color palette, which gives the brand a vintage look that works great with what we offer (tracking the past).
Typography
The whole brand is based on 2 fonts: Serif New York and SF Pro. Both fonts are made by Apple. For website titles and marketing purposes we also use Reckless Neue
Logo
I decided to use a simple typographic logo with the addition of a small quote signet. This allows the logo to be versatile and easily recognizable. The quote signet adds a touch of personality and uniqueness to the logo.
Slide Deck
The slide deck consists of simple slides that each show a different screen from the app. Each slide has a screenshot of the app on it, along with a brief description of what is happening on that particular screen.
Onboarding
The onboarding process is quick and easy so that users can start sharing photos with their family and friends as soon as possible.
After downloading the app, users are prompted to create an account.
After we need to collect a few more details like Name, age (optional) and profile picture.
New Quote
Try out the experience by using the prototype below!
Each quote is assigned a location and a creation date. It can be shared and liked by others, in the future we also plan to add a simple commenting option.
Albums
Each album is a timeline telling a different story. When you add a new quote it grows allowing you to easily track the progress of the event.
What can I track? That’s totally up to you! It can be an album with family gatherings or one documenting your travels.
To create an album user just hits the button on the home screen.
First you need to give it a name
Then specify if the album is ongoin (closed or open)
Add a location to your album
Attach a background image
Invited friends to colaborate on album or keep it private, you can easily change it any time
